North Queensland Women’s Legal Service (NQWLS) is a community-based legal service developed and operated by women for women. Since our inception in 1996, NQWLS have sought to enhance women’s access to justice and promote change within the justice system informed by women’s experiences.

NQWLS clients are women. They are usually mums (and primary carers) and have limited access to financial resources. All too often, they are victims of domestic violence. NQWLS has see an increased demand for their help each year, especially from women in rural and regional areas.

As such, NQWLS now have an exciting opportunity for full-time Family Lawyers to join their team in Townsville or Cairns. There will be times when you will need to travel to conduct work within the community, such as outreach advice clinics, community legal education and other activities.

As NQWLS newest Family Law Solicitor, you will provide high-quality, trauma-informed legal services, primarily in family law and domestic violence and other areas that are within NQWLS guidelines.

To thrive in this role, you will possess qualifications as a legal practitioner and post-admission experience in a solicitor role. You will also hold (or be eligible to obtain) a practising certificate as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. Importantly, you will, through your work, promote the social justice and human rights issues affecting women in Australia today.

You will be an empathetic individual passionate about providing access to justice to women experiencing family and domestic violence.

Moreover, you will be able to provide quality, trauma-informed legal advice and casework, particularly in family law and domestic violence.
