Climate change and legal need: What do we know? Where are the gaps?

Climate change and legal need
June 2, 2022, 12pm-1pm (Queensland time)
Hosted by: Community Legal Centres Queensland

Every day civil law problems are likely to accelerate as a result of both slow onset climate change, as well as standalone extreme weather events like the recent Queensland floods.

This webinar, presented by Monica Taylor, PhD student at the QUT School of Law, will share initial observations from an ongoing study about changing civil law needs as a result of climate change. Monica will present literature about the impacts of climate change – in particular extreme heat – on priority population groups, and common areas of ‘community law’.  CLCs that understand the correlation between climate change and every day legal need will be better placed to respond through casework, law reform and community legal education.

Participants of this webinar will come away with a greater understanding of the downstream impacts that climate change will likely have on every day legal need.  This will hopefully foster greater ‘climate consciousness’ in daily legal practice (Hon Judge Preston).
