TASC Legal and Social Justice Services is looking for a Senior Solicitor to join its team in Toowoomba.
The position is full time, subject to ongoing funding. You will be responsible for providing high-quality legal services to clients in addition to professional supervision of other members of the Legal Services Team, including our PLT students. Provide support to the Legal Services Manager in grants applications, program management, reporting and assisting with the resolution of conflicts of interests as a nominated officer under the NACLC Risk Management Guide. Participate in the accreditation process inclusive of cross check reviews.
This role provides advice and limited representation on general family, domestic violence, child protection civil and criminal law issues, some duty lawyer work will be required. If you are not already accredited with Legal Aid Queensland to perform duty lawyer services TASC will support you to become accredited. Participation in Mental Health Review Tribunal representation may be required.
You will assist to collect data and monitor and evaluate casework and actively contribute to the ongoing marketing and profiling of TASC. You will work collaboratively with other professionals within TASC and create new growth opportunities through effective networking and relationships with other service providers. Work with us to create social change through action.
Have a minimum of 5 years PAE ideally with strong experience in generalist practice. Also a minimum of 2 years supervising junior solicitors or students.
Admission or eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland, and eligible for a current practicing certificate.
Experience in providing advice and court services in Domestic Violence and mental health law an advantage.
Experience in providing advice and/or duty lawyer services in Child Protection.
Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment. You will have the ability to effectively communicate with clients with all backgrounds including those with mental health. Additionally you will have exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. You will also demonstrate a willingness to participate in community legal education and law reform activities. You will have a commitment to professional development, and a willingness to expand knowledge and skills.
The successful candidate will show a strong commitment to the principles of social justice and have a genuine interest in working to help people who are experiencing disadvantage.
You must hold or be immediately eligible to obtain a Queensland Disability Worker Card based on mandatory criminal history screening, and hold an unrestricted Queensland driver’s license.
