Youth Advocacy Centre (YAC) is looking for an experienced solicitor who is passionate about youth justice and advocacy, and enjoys working with young people. You are motivated to provide timely, youth-focused legal support, and to collaborate with courts, Youth Justice, and community stakeholders to improve outcomes for young people on remand.

About the role

The Fast-Track Solicitor provides youth-focused, trauma-informed legal services to young people with matters in the Childrens Court, held in watchhouses and youth detention centres. You will work collaboratively with Youth Justice, courts, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient legal processes, reduce unnecessary remand time, and improve outcomes for young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely legal advice, information, and representation to young people on remand, including urgent bail and fast-track sentencing matters.
  • Attend Children’s Courts across South East Queensland.
  • Deliver face-to-face and remote legal services, ensuring accessibility and youth focus.
  • Maintain accurate client records and data in line with service agreement requirements.
  • Engage in systemic advocacy and stakeholder engagement to improve youth justice outcomes.
