Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre

The Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre Inc. provides free and confidential legal advice, information, referrals and ongoing assistance to financially disadvantaged people in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac regions. MRCLC also provides presentations on various legal topics to organisations and members of the community throughout these areas.

MRCLC provides a generalist legal service, which includes family law (property and parenting matters), employment, debt, neighbourhood disputes and consumer disputes. MRCLC provides legal advice to tenants and rooming accommodation residents as part of the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service (QSTARS).

The MRCLC also operates a domestic and family violence duty lawyer service at the Mackay court house, and a Mental Health Review Tribunal Representation Service upon referral from Legal Aid Queensland.

MRCLC carries out community legal education on various topics through its service area.

MRCLC does not assist: Lessors, high income earners, or commercial, criminal, personal injury,  conveyancing or native title areas of law.

MRCLC does not provide court or QCAT representation.

On the fourth Thursday of the month MRCLC provides appointments at the Bowen Neighbourhood Centre located at 20 Williams Street, Bowen. On the fourth Friday of the month MRCLC provides advice at the Whitsunday Counselling & Support Inc (WC&S) and Proserpine Community Centre (PCC). WC&S is located at 1/157 Shute Harbour Road, Cannonvale. PCC is located at 36 Gardenia Street, Proserpine. Once a month MRCLC travels to Sarina Neighbourhood Centre, which is located at 65 Broad Street, Sarina. All appointments required to be booked in advance.

The Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre Inc. provides free and confidential legal advice, information, referrals and ongoing assistance to financially disadvantaged people in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac regions. MRCLC also provides presentations on various legal topics to organisations and members of the community throughout these areas. On-going casework is subject to casework guidelines. No court representation is provided. Legal advice is provided by appointment only, so please telephone us to make a booking. The MRCLC provides legal advice appointments at the Bowen Neighbourhood Centre on the fourth Thursday of the month and on the following day at the Whitsunday Counselling & Support Inc. (WC&S) and Proserpine Community Centre. The MRCLC provides advice appointments at the Sarina Neighbourhood Centre on the second Tuesday of the month.   Interpreting services are available by arrangement. Clients are welcome to bring a support person to their appointment if they so choose.   Additionally, MRCLC provides tenancy advice as part of the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service (QSTARS). Bookings are essential - please contact the MRCLC's office number to make an appointment.

Office Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm. Appointments can be booked at other times of business days and at Legal Advice Evenings. Phone appointments, Legal Advice Evenings held on the first Wednesday and third Tuesday of every month from 5:35pm - 7:00pm (except between mid December - mid January), face to face appointments available in the office and once a month at each of Bowen Neighbourhood Centre, Proserpine Community Centre, Whitsunday Counselling & Support Inc in Cannonvale and Sarina Neighbourhood Centre.
