The Community Legal Centres Queensland 2022 State Conference saw more than 200 delegates come together for two days of challenging, inspiring and thought-provoking discussions around the theme: “Champions, Allies & Advocates”.

The conference attracted not only those working in the community legal sector but also delegates from government, private law firms and universities.

Highlights of the conference included ARDS Aboriginal Corporation CEO Ben Grimes discussing “Predictable Miscommunication” and advocating for the urgent need to improve legal communication for people who speak English as an additional language, the LGBTI Legal Services team outlining the work they are doing around discrimination with parents and students from Citipointe Christian College and speakers including Thelma Schwartz and Teela Reid championing First Nations justice.

94% of conference delegates rated the conference as excellent and stated they would used the information they learnt at the conference in their work.

“The presenters were amazing. I am so proud of the work being done for indigenous peoples and the courage to undertake such activities for our recognition and relevance.”
“I finished Day 2 feeling that fire in my belly again.”
