“Connect” with the new right to disconnect

April 18, 2024, 11am-12pm (Qld time)
Hosted by: Community Legal Centres Queensland

In this webinar, Jacinda Gray and Nancy Katakis, Lawyers of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, will provide an overview of the new Right to Disconnect, the latest of the raft of recent Fair Work legislative reforms, and what this means practically for employers and employees alike.

The new right for employees to disconnect from work fundamentally changes the way many employers and employees will need to approach communicating outside of work hours. This session will provide attendees with practical guidance on how an employee might exercise this right, how an employer can respond, the mechanisms available to both parties should a dispute arise, and the how the right interacts with the existing Fair Work regime such as unfair dismissals, general protections claims and the application of enterprise agreements and modern awards.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into steps employers can take to risk proof their employment and workplace practices in the current industrial landscape where employees are actively seeking flexibility in their employment while also seeking the ‘right to disconnect’.
